What a year it has been at Covenant Christian School!
It’s hard to believe that at this time last fall, we were still in the midst of our search for a new principal. State testing- to be done for the first time via computer- was looming, and our 25 year old building was in need of some major repairs to keep our children safe. Without the necessary Chromebooks for every student (or even exterior doors that opened and closed correctly!), we reached out, hoping to raise $35,000. With the previous year’s campaign bringing in just over $12,000, it was a BIG ask!
But, thanks to YOU, we did it, and thanks to new principal Alison Noakes, we secured a matching grant for nearly $50,000 more!
Your support enabled CCS to successfully complete state testing in April, earning an “A” rating from the Indiana Department of Education for the 10th year in a row. We were able to relocate the playground off of an existing septic field, and to hire landscaping and cleaning crews for the school. All classrooms and the school’s interior were painted, and new furniture and appliances gave the front office and teacher workroom a much needed update! We now have working phones (with a built in PA system!) in every classroom as well. The bulk of those funds went to replace all of our exterior doors, in the front of the school and around the sides and back as well. Those were installed over fall break, along with facial recognition software for visitors.
Because of you, our students are safe, and we’re able to look confidently Forward in Faith.
Since the introduction of the Spanish immersion program in 2010, our student body has nearly doubled in size. The footprint of the school, however, has not. The portables out back are only temporary fix. With 50 of our 184 students enrolled in the preschool alone (!), a building campaign is imminent.
We’ve already begun meeting with local construction companies to get bids for a gym. Depending on added classroom space, that’ll likely be at least a $2,000,000 project. Since CCS has never had an advancement office or development software, we’re working hard to try and build a mailing list and donor database. It’s our hope that we’ll be able to begin fundraising for that project as soon as next fall, with construction to begin soon after!
In the meantime, our top priority is making sure our existing building is up to date, and that we’re meeting the day to day needs of our students.
For this year’s Forward in Faith campaign, we’re hoping to raise $75,000. Once again, it’s a BIG ask. Believe it or not, our most urgent need is brought to you by our first grade Spanish immersion students. As the snow (finally!) began to melt last spring, they pointed out what we’d long suspected- that Covenant Christian School needs a new roof!
Mrs. Noakes has given us a wishlist as well. Though students were able to share Chromebooks/IPADS for state testing, having one for each student would be ideal. These are used daily for some of our math and reading programs, along with student research, STEM projects and coding. We’d love to purchase new laptops for each teacher (loaded with the same software etc.) and document readers for each of their classrooms. A scrolling LED sign along Fir Road would be great for marketing purposes, too.
As we launch our 2019-2020 Forward in Faith campaign, we’re asking each of our school families and our friends for three things:
Prayer: Please pray for us! Pray for the success of this campaign, and that we are able to
rightly prioritize the needs of our students and families. 2. Advocacy: Tell your friends and families about Covenant Christian School. We need to find community members who are able to support CCS (and especially the upcoming building campaign!) in a significant way. 3. Financial Support: If you can! As a privately funded school without backing from a
particular faith community, campaigns like this make a tremendous difference when it comes to our ability to offset irregular costs and to do special projects.
